Alpha Dog Questions
Alpha dog? The other day a friend brung her shitzu round to my house and after a while my dog started to 'play' with it and after about 5 mins playing my dog just kept pinning the Shitzu down and not letting her up for a while then doing it all over again, was this to display the Alpha role to the other dog or was it simply them just playing?
How can I make me the alpha dog in the house? Its pretty obvious my dog is the alpha of the house. He is a sheltie, and I do practicly everything for him, but he only listens when its right for him. How can I teach him that I am the alpha, not him?
How can I establish my alpha role with my very alpha dog? My Siberian Husky is a wonderful dog but she is also extremely stubborn and continually tries to assert her dominance- even to th point of mounting me. I'm not, by any means, easy going with her. I don't let her get away with trying to push my limits, but she constantly tries, to at least determine how much I'll take. She's 5 years old and I've had her since she was 1. I've finally decided that I want to be the alpha, once and for all. How can I make this transition?
Why does my "alpha dog" wait to eat his food until the cats are finished with his dog food? Don't worry, I normally feed everyone seperately. Cats get cat food and the dogs get dog food. But when I slip up, the dogs wait patiently till the cats are done with the dog food, or I remove the cats. Then - alpha dog (basenji) eats, then second in command dog (JR mix) gets to eat. One growl would send the cats running, at least I think that would happen. Or are my dogs altrustic towards their cats. Or are they wussie dogs?
One of my dogs is challenging the alpha dog? can she know the other dog is sick? Is it because she can sense she is sick? It's sad to see, but what can I do? The alpha dog (border collie) has been sick for 2 weeks, and the past 2 days my other dog is challenging her. What should I do? so far, I don't intervene, I keep an eye to make sure it does not turn into a fight. So far, it's been "friendly" but it's definately not a behavior my "submissive"dog usually has...and usually my border collie replies pretty quickly but not anymore. I really noticed the change today, while walking them and while playing with them in the yard, my other dog was taking over. any suggestions? would it be bad for the moral of my sick dog? My sick dog has been seen by the vet 3 times in 2 weeks. Will know tomorrow the results of the tests. I am the alpha, and my dogs are below my husband as well... but they do have a ranking system between themselves!
Can a good dog owner not be the Alpha? i think people forget that they need to be in control of their dog. Cesar Milan says all owners need to be alpha pack leader. Do you think its possible to be a good owner and not be the alpha dog? and maybe this is the the key to training dogs?
who is julie beckley in the movie alpha dog? in the movie alpha dog, amanda seyfriend plays a character named julie beckley. is that character based on a real person?? if so, who? or was it just put in the movie for the dramatic effect?
In a family, does the Alpha dog loose his tittle as they age? My Pom dog (11) has always been SO in charge, even bullying. Lately the younger female (5) has been challenging him, and even charged him this evening! They are both fixed. Is this normal? Should I interfere? He is older, but still bigger than her, so I am afraid of what will happen when I go to work.
How do I train my out of control Chihuahua? She is the Alpha Dog and rules the house. She bites me!? She is five and was the only dog with two cats in the house. I now have a puppy that is three months old. Sometimes she plays with the puppy, sometimes she acts like a mother and licks her and cleans her and then others she just down right attacks her for no apparent reason. She sleeps wherever she wants. Does what ever she wants most of the time. As soon as she does something bad like bite, she acts submissive and try's to get you to pet her, like she is sorry for what she just did. Is is top dog stuff because of the new puppy or can she be trained not to be aggressive and bite?
with 2 dogs is there always an alpha dog? we have 2 dogs. A 3 year old and a puppy, they are both chihuahua. But it looks like the puppy is bossing the older dog, trying to mount him and all. Our older male travels everywhere with me, he is very well socialized with people and other animals.
Can an alpha female dog react to human pheromones? I have noticed that our spayed corgi female becomes, well, extremely "female doggy" right around the time of my daughter's period each month. In fact, I can always tell when my daughter is having hers by how Faye acts around Dodie, our other, submissive female dog. She snaps with very little provocation, and seems to have a very tight radius of body space around her. Woe to Dodie, if she happens to stray inside that circle. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon with their alphas?
What exactly is an Alpha Dog? I saw the movie Alpha Dog, and there was no connection whatsoever to an 'Alpha Dog', so I guess it might be a kind of personality or something...any ideas? So in the movie, the Alpha Dog was Johnny Truelove? P.S> if u haven't seen the movie, pls do, it's pretty entertaining.
How Do I Know If Dog Considers Me The Alpha? What method can I do to reliably tell my order in the 'pack'? I want to make sure I am the alpha so that my dog follows what I say, but I am not sure the best way to test. My dog, most of the time, obeys commands, but from what I have read that is not the best way to tell who is the boss. Any suggestions?
We have 3 dogs, alpha gets aggressive w/20 month old child. How do you train dog not to? My dogs have always been my children. Meiko, the alpha mail of the pack is closest to me. He has done Pet Therapy at hospitols and is GREAT around people/children. Enter...Corbin, our 20 month old son. We have been slowly integrating the dogs with Corbin. He has been able to pet them and all is well. Now, Corbin wants to pinch, poke and pull. The other 2 dogs tolerate this, Meiko does not. He has tried to bite 3 times now...fortunately we are right there to stop it. Meiko get scolded and is sent to his bed. Does anyone have advice on how to deal with this? Corbin is my son and comes first, but...Meiko is my other son. If he ever bit Corbin I would die! Please advise.
How to train an alpha female dog? Hello again! I just got a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy, only to find out from my sister, who is a vet, that she is clearly a dominant female. She is the runt of the litter as well. I have tried tapping her on the nose, that only gets her more angry. She loves water, and i don't want to hurt her. Thank you! She bites, nips at heels (herding instinct)
Can you have an alpha cat among a cat and dog household? I am moving in with a friend who has a boxer and a poodle (both female) who are indifferent to cats. My 2 cats (one male, one female) have lived in our apartment for 7 months. Last night we brought the dogs to my apartment to test the waters before the move and the dogs were fine. The female cat held her ground with some teeth showing and growling for a little bit but then calmed down and actually looked like she was trying to get the nerve to play. However, the male cat was being very protective of his space and never fully calmed down. I am wondering if he knows he is the only male and is trying to show he is the alpha in this mix of animals? I know he was trying to protect his territory but was curious about this too. Thanks
Which dog is the alpha dog? I have two dogs, a Westie and a Golden Retriever (big difference, i know). The Westie has been around for a while, she is 13. The Golden is app. 18 months. I'm a little confused as to who the alpha dog is. They are both girls, btw. Here's what goes on: The Golden will eat the Westie's food, and take her toys, but still seems to be a little timid around the Westie. The Westie gets an attitude around the Golden, and unless the Golden thinks the Westie is playing, she always backs off. It's a mixed situation. It is as if the Golden knows she's bigger, but still respects the Westie. This all sounds extremely redundant, but hopefully it's clear enough to understand. They may or may not be playing. I can usually tell when they are playing. For instance, if the Westie is sleeping, the Golden will sometimes come and nudge her. The Westie immediately begins to growl and if the Golden persists, the Westie will snap at her. My dogs Know I am the alpha being. My question is between them.
What is a good kind of dog to get to get along with a alpha male pit bull? My male pit is 10 months old. He is alpha male I am pretty sure. He's a stubborn guy. He and his brother used to get into spats when they were little and it would end in us having to break them up. My friend had his brother, but she got rid of him. I would like to get another dog for him to have a friend. What kind of dog do you think would be a good breed so that they got along? I assume it would be a female, but I don't know what breed. I'd like it to be big enough for them to play together so I don't want like a chiuaua or however you spell that. He is neutered..any ideas?
I need alpha dog meeting alpha dog advice? I raised a female in my house. Then she went to live with my mother. I raised a second female in my house. Second female came into season. I put second female into boarding kennel. My mother passed away, so I brought first female home (she is 7 years old) Time to pick up second female from kennel (she is 3 years old) They both think they are the top rung on the ladder. I'm afraid of a dog fight. How do I get these two girls to get along. They both think they were there first!
Our alpha female dog is peeing on our bed at times. Could it be nightmares? See details? My dog is a alpha female (we have 6 small ones). She sleeps in bed with my wife while I'm out and never has peed when I'm at the house. She has a strong personality/temper. She has never demonstrated any bladder problems The backyard door is always open My wife as stated she doesn't even notice she pees as she wakes up on it. Could she be having nightmares? We have just moved from overseas recently.
Any advise on introducing Pit-Bull type Alpha Female dog to my cat? My husbands dog wants to eat my cat and i ended up having to give her back to my ex cause i don't want her to get killed-everyone says to give it a few days but i can't stand the way the dog is acting so agressively towards her-is ther any way to properly introduce them-the dog is sooo high strung and very jealous.
How can I teach my dog to see my children as alpha too? We have a chi/mini pincher mix dog. He is 3 years old and I am now in the process of getting a hold of his aggressive behavior about property and food. I have 2 daughters, 8 and 2. I am working on him knowing I'm alpha but how do I get him to know they are boss too?
