Alpha dog? The other day a friend brung her shitzu round to my house and after a while my dog started to 'play' with it and after about 5 mins playing my dog just kept pinning the Shitzu down and not letting her up for a while then doing it all over again, was this to display the Alpha role to the other dog or was it simply them just playing?

Why does my "alpha dog" wait to eat his food until the cats are finished with his dog food? Don't worry, I normally feed everyone seperately. Cats get cat food and the dogs get dog food. But when I slip up, the dogs wait patiently till the cats are done with the dog food, or I remove the cats. Then - alpha dog (basenji) eats, then second in command dog (JR mix) gets to eat.
